Angie’s Show (part seven of series)

   Angie arrived at Cara’s house by taxi at five minutes til seven, with twilight already falling. She had asked why Cara couldn’t pick her up at school, and was told that there were things she still had to do. Angie pulled her overnight bag with her as she got out, paid the driver, and waited until he had gone before going up the walk to knock at the door. Cara answered almost immediately. The cordless phone was cradled between her left ear and shoulder.

“Go take a shower. Just a quick one. Don’t lollygag,” she was instructed as soon as she stepped inside.

Angie nodded and put her bag down on the coffee table to dig for nicer clothes, but Cara shook her head. She pointed at a dark red shopping bag at the other end of the sofa, then nudged her in the direction of the bathroom.

She dropped articles of clothing as she went, knowingly trying Cara’s patience. A few minutes later, Cara came in, leaning in the doorway just as she was getting ready to shave herself.

 Angie’s Gets Loaned Out (part eight of series)

   Angie sighed deeply and slouched a little to one side, putting her head on Cara’s shoulder. “When did they stop having any films or anything”

Cara grinned indulgently at Angie’s boredom. “They haven’t. The projector is broken.”

“So all it’s going to be this time is people talking”

“Pretty much.”
“Then why did you bring me Why are they having a meeting on Christmas Eve, anyway I thought most people had plans for today.”

“Hey, now. Ice, thin. Behave yourself.”

Angie gave a little groan in response and quieted. The Pet-Lovers meeting was sedate, to say the least. She saw Daniel hovering around a table display of various sex toys and gave him a little wave. He grinned back.

Another speaker, a woman, went up behind the microphone and began talking about which lubricants were safe to use with animals. Angie wiggled a foot under her chair to stay awake. She heard the foyer doors shut and twisted around to see Jonathan walking near the wall, looking as if he were barely restraining himself from running, toward a door at the back.

“Look,” she poked Cara gently in the side, “Look, it’s Jonathan.”

Cara nodded and put her hand around Angie’s, holding it down to cease the poking. “I see.”
